This is newly open trekking region displaying its own special beauty. Trekking the legendary three peaks of Ma naslu (8156 meters) is tough but enjoyable, transversing Tamang and Sherpa (originally from Tibet) villages with their diverse traditions. Manaslu was First Climbed in 1956 by a Japanese expedition. Its name comes from Sanskrit word manasa meaning ‘intellect’ or ‘soul’. This is the same word that is the root of the name of the holy lake Manasarovar near Mt. Kailash in Tibet. The real survey of the peak was made by a Japanese expedition in1952. The Manaslu Himal rises as a beautiful wall of snow peaks to the east of the Marsyangdi and is seen on several of the early stages of the Annapurna circuit. The north and western Flanks are drained by the Dudh Khola (Which empties into the Marsyangdi at Dharapani), the eastern slopes by the Budi Gandaki. The two valleys are joined by the Larkkya La(5213m; 17,30ft), from both sides of which magnificent high mountains, snowfields and glaciers are laid out for inspection.
